DESCRIPTION:Pavitrotsavam is an annual ritual in Devagri Sri Venkateshwara Temple. Pavitrotsava is derived from the combination of two words Pavitra (holy) & Utsava (Festival). This Utsava is penitential as well as propitiatory and its main objective is to get rid of the evil that might have been caused due to omissions and commissions in the performance of various rituals throughout the year. The festival is also known as Dosha Nivarana (error correction)\, Sarva Yajna Phalapradha (The one ritual that equals the holiness of rites all year long)\, Sarva Doshaprasamana (Removal of all errors)\n\nPavitra is a means towards Purification. That is why dharba grass worn in a loose knot round the finger usually heralds the performance of any religious rite.\n\nThe Jayakhya Samhita explains that Pavitra protects one from evil. The Puranas prescribe Pavitra Aarohana (adorning the deity with Pavitra sanctified garlands of thread) as an integral part of the rituals during the worship of Lord Vishnu.\n\nPavitra is the name given to strings made up of smooth\, fine & white threads (silk\, cotton).
