Dhanavantri is god of Ayurveda. The story goes that during the time of samudra mathana by Devasa and Danavas, Sriman Narayana emerges with Amritha Kalasha as the son of Dhanva, King of Kashi, who possessed extraordinary curative powers. However, Dhanavantri in general, is considering as an incarnation of Narayana and oblations are offered to him in Homas performed during this rituals.
Every year, Dhanavantri Homa is performed on the day of Kartika Bhahula Trayodashi, when a detailed Dhanavantri Pooja and Homa is performed. Different medicinal twigs are offered as oblations in numbers of 1001. The smoke emerging during the Homa is stated to have very high medicinal curative effects for disceses.
With the intention of general health and well being of all devotees, the temple performs these events in which quite number of seva karthas actively participate .
